You bought a new GPU and your five-year-old monitor “doesn’t do it justice” — that’s the number one reason you’re reading this. Good news: 2026 is the year gaming OLED became genuinely affordable. OLED panel shipments grew 78% year on year according to TrendForce, and prices that were above $1,500 two years ago now sit under $900 for 32” 4K 240Hz.

And one point rarely made in a monitor guide: with GPUs this expensive in 2026, the monitor is one of the few parts whose price has moved in your favour.

First, the question everyone asks: does OLED burn in?

It’s the number one fear before buying, so let’s settle it up front: burn-in risk (permanent marks from static images) is real but far lower than three or four years ago. Second-generation QD-OLED panels include active protections: pixel shifting, automatic cleaning cycles, and dedicated extended burn-in warranties from several manufacturers.

144Hz vs 240Hz: is it actually noticeable?

Yes, with caveats. The jump from 60Hz to 144Hz is dramatic and anyone feels it. From 144Hz to 240Hz the difference is real but far subtler — mostly noticed by competitive players in fast shooters.

And there’s a condition people forget: to use 240Hz you need to hold 240 FPS, not peak at them. If your GPU gives you a steady 150 FPS in the game you play, a 165Hz monitor serves you just as well and costs considerably less.

If you mainly play single-player titles or RPGs, 144Hz is still excellent and frees budget for the GPU.
